Taipei European School is seeking to appoint a dedicated and enthusiastic Librarian to join our dynamic Library team starting in August 2024. The successful candidate will be responsible for acquiring, organising, promoting and disseminating a wide range of resources to meet the needs of the TES community. The Librarian will play a crucial role in supporting our student's educational journey by ensuring access to a well-organised and resourceful library.

  • Directs, monitors and evaluates work of the library assistants
  • Conducts performance development

Working Relationships and Contacts

  • Has internal contacts with the respective staff, parents, teachers, teaching assistants and students
  • has external contacts with international books suppliers and other information resources suppliers


  • Organising and maintaining the information in the Library using the Library Management System and accepted international cataloguing standards
  • Developing and sustaining the various learning resources, i.e. books, magazines, multimedia resources, Internet/digital resources..etc. available to students and staff across all sections and age groups to the highest of standards
  • Ensuring the Library provide an inviting, quiet, tidy and safe environment for students and staff to work in
  • Ensuring staff and students are aware of health and safety issues within the Library including emergency procedures and evacuation
  • Setting and maintaining standards of expectations of both student and staff behaviour in the Library. 
  • Developing Learning Resources
  • Working closely with the school sections and faculty in selecting and ordering books, periodicals, educational software and audio visual materials and other information media including online sources based on curriculum requirements
  • Regularly monitoring the collection to ensure its currency and relevance
  • Undertaking regular stock takes
  • Maintaining links with book suppliers
  • Communicating regularly with all stakeholders of the Library about developments in the Library and availability of new books and other information resources via the Library web page
  • Supporting education programmes for students, including research techniques and information selection and analysis. This includes developing library education programs for Library in conjunction with teaching staff
  • Conducting library promotion programs regularly to students and staff to assist and encourage them in finding the information they need by using various resources available.
  • Planning, organizing and conducting induction programs for all new and existing staff at the start of the academic year
  • Maintaining and updating Library web presence
  • Managing Library Staff and providing support and training as required. 
  • Develop the Library Action Plan
  • Perform any other duties as required by your line manager


  • Ability to lead, support, motivate and mentor team members.
  • University degree with a major in library and information science. 
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to be collaborative and stay up to date with the library management and information technology trends
  • Experience or Knowledge in an international educational setting will be desired
  • Cultural awareness and highly developed interpersonal skills
  • Collaborative and able to work as part of a team
