Library Assistant (German Speaking)

Taipei European School is seeking to appoint a dedicated and enthusiastic Library Assistant to join our dynamic Library team , especially focusing on supporting our German language students and teachers. The Library Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting our student's educational journey by ensuring access to a well-organised and resourceful library. This position is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about books, learning, and helping students succeed.

Working Relationships and Contacts

  • Has internal contacts with the respective staff, parents, teachers, teaching assistants and students. 
  • has external contacts with international books suppliers and other information resources suppliers. 



  • Assist with the organisation of library resources using the Dewey Decimal Classification methodology and maintaining a database of the resources. 
  • Accession and process all new resources. 
  • Maintain circulation(loans), shelving, inventory, stock control and security of the respective library. 
  • Assist with development and regular updating of the library web pages. 
  • Maintain a tidy, quiet and inviting environment in the respective library. 

Developing Learning Resources

  • Work with the librarian and teachers to develop resources to support the curriculum, e.g. acquisition of collection in specific languages, book displays and reading lists.


  • Conduct library education programs for students. 
  • Updating library news via school website or newsletter. 
  • Communicate with parents and staff in respective sections.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Library and Information Services or a related field is preferred.
  • Previous library or educational support experience is an advantage.

Skills / Abilities

  • Strong English and Chinese written & verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate in various functions and manage internal and external stakeholders.
  • Word processing skills and knowledge of Google Suite and applications.
  • Wide knowledge of literature and publications for children and teenagers.
  • Proficient Information literate and prior Library experience is an advantage.

  • Independent, organised and accurate.

  • Willingness to participate in further training and development opportunities.
