Learning Support Assistant – British Primary Section

Start Date: August 2025

The British Primary Section has an exciting opportunity for experienced Learning Support Assistant to join our dedicated  Additional Learning Needs team, starting in August 2025.

Focus Group: Students identified as neurodivergent or considered at-risk, including those diagnosed with autism, ADHD, and learning differences.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support neurodivergent and at-risk students, including those with autism, ADHD, and learning differences.
  • Work under the supervision of the ALN Department Coordinator, assisting students both in-class and in small-group settings.
  • Reinforce evidence-based instructional strategies, supplementing the work of teachers to enhance student learning and development.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Show some understanding of national frameworks, typical curricular and teaching methods, and expectations in the relevant Key Stages.
  • Provide support and scaffolding to students on the ALN Register in the classroom, with a focus on enabling them to access the curriculum delivered by the Class Teacher and making adjustments as appropriate.
  • Maintain regular communication with the Class Teacher to keep informed of the essentials in the classroom, e.g. concepts taught, skills involved, intended learning outcomes.
  • Contribute to the preparation of additional resources and differentiated activities for the ALN students, taking into consideration individuals’ readiness, interests, and learning profiles.
  • Inform class teachers of children’s progress and/or difficulties following in-class support sessions.
  • Contribute to the preparation of tailored homework assignments and the monitoring of the children’s progress.
  • Plan and deliver structured and agreed intervention programmes in one-to-one or small group settings, based upon prior training received externally or in-house, and ongoing support from the Subject Coordinator or the ALNCoordinator.
  • Keep track of the students’ responses to learning activities/ intervention programmes to record progress made and contribute to support provision discussions.
  • Take the main responsibility for the ALN student’s file and keep its contents regularly updated.
  • Contribute to students’ IEP discussions, meeting with the designated ALN Teacher, Class Teacher, and parents as appropriate.
  • Participate in additional meetings and PD trainings as requested by the ALN Coordinator.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Education, Childhood Education, Special Education or a relevant field from a recognized University, or a qualification/certification in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools or a relevant field. 
  • Fluent in French and English (essential).
  • A minimum of 2 years relevant experience in a school or similar setting.
  • Experience of working in a mainstream international school with a Western pedagogical background would be a significant advantage.
  • Understanding of the Safeguarding principles and willingness to take additional certifications.
  • Familiarity with multicultural settings is a plus.
