Overview

Taipei European School invites applications for the position of Class Teacher (EYFS/KS1) with Head of Year Responsibility in the British Primary Section, commencing in August 2026. We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic teacher with a strong background and passion for Early Years education, as well as proven leadership skills to lead and support a year group effectively.

We are looking for candidates whose dynamism, commitment, energy, professional expertise and experience qualify them to take on this exciting and challenging role. The successful candidate will be an excellent teacher, communicator, and a capable and inspiring leader who fully understands the commitment required of all staff in our busy and unique school.

Head of Year Responsibilities

Year Group Leadership:
  • Lead and manage a designated year group, fostering a positive and supportive learning environment.
  • Collaborate with teachers to ensure the delivery of a well-rounded and engaging curriculum that meets the academic needs of students.
  • Plan, or delegate the planning of, and have oversight for educational trips and visits undertaken by year group 
  • Line manage year group team members on a day-to-day basis and be responsible for their annual performance review process (goal setting/monitoring/review) including lesson observations as a part of this.
  • Support and induct new team members as required 
  • Manage the year group budget and resources effectively
  • Arrange cover when staff are absent to ensure the continuation of provision if necessary (i.e. phonics, interventions)
Pastoral Care:
  • Oversee student cohort behaviour and work together with your team to identify and implement strategies to reinforce the school’s community values and learner profile.
  • Maintain oversight of student behaviour in the cohort and be available if required to support a member of the year group with student issues.  
  • Implement and oversee pastoral care initiatives, ensuring a safe and inclusive school environment.
  • Ensure that the school’s behaviour policy and reporting procedures are known (within your year group) and followed promptly and effectively, including the use of CPOMS for safeguarding issues which may arise.
  • Keep track of new students in the year group and help monitor and support their transition.  
Planning and Curriculum Development:
  • Work closely with the Curriculum leads and SLT to develop and implement effective teaching and learning strategies.
  • Oversee and document collaborative planning (long, medium and short term), ensuring alignment with curriculum standards, HQLT, Global Citizenship expectations, school values and learner profile.  
  • Ensure the effective  and consistent use of technology across the year group to enhance student learning and equip students with relevant digital literacy skills
Data Analysis:
  • Collect, analyse, and interpret year group student performance data to inform instructional decisions and identify areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with teachers to develop and implement strategies to address academic challenges and enhance student achievement.
Parental Engagement:
  • Maintain open and proactive communication with parents regarding student progress, achievements, and any concerns.
  • Communicate effectively with Year group parents keeping them informed about events, activities and parent-engagement days.
  • Organise year-group presentations for parent information sessions and participate in parent-teacher conferences and other relevant events.
Professional Development:
  • Encourage the sharing of best practice and effective L&T strategies across the year group.
  • Support the ongoing professional development of teaching staff within the year group, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
Collaboration:
  • Work collaboratively with other Heads of Year, Curriculum leads, and SLT to ensure consistency and excellence in educational standards.
  • Participate in school-wide initiatives and contribute to the overall success of the primary school.
  • Work with the other sections within the school to foster and promote the ethos of ‘One School’ at TES.

Class Teacher Responsibilities

Teachers at Taipei European School make the education of their students their first concern and are accountable for achieving the highest possible standards in work and conduct. Teachers at Taipei European School act with honesty and integrity; have strong subject knowledge, keep their knowledge and skills as teachers up-to-date and are self-critical; forge positive professional relationships; and work with parents in the best interests of their students. 

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:  

A teacher at Taipei European School must:

  1. Set high expectations which inspire, motivate and challenge students.
  2. Promote good progress and outcomes by students.
  3. Demonstrate excellent subject and curriculum knowledge.
  4. Plan and teach well-structured lessons.
  5. Plan and adapt their learning environment, both indoor and outdoor, in order to promote learning in line with students’age and stage of development.
  6. Adapt teaching and adult-led interactions to respond to the strengths and needs of all students.
  7. Make accurate and productive use of assessment.
  8. Manage behaviour effectively to ensure a good and safe learning environment.
  9. Fulfill wider professional responsibilities.

A teacher is expected to demonstrate consistently high standards of personal and professional conduct. The following statements define the behaviour and attitudes which set the required standard for conduct at our top international school. Teachers uphold public trust in the profession and maintain high standards of ethics and behaviour, within and outside Taipei European School, by:

  • treating students with dignity, building relationships rooted in mutual respect, and at all times observing proper boundaries appropriate to a teacher’s professional position
  • having regard for the need to safeguard  students’ well-being, in accordance with statutory provisions
  • showing tolerance of and respect for the rights of others

  • Teachers must have an understanding of and always act within, the policies and procedures which set out their professional duties and responsibilities at Taipei European School.

Qualifications

  • Successful applicants will have a PGCE, Bachelor of Education or Masters in Education and experience in teaching.
  • A valid government-issued teaching license to teach in the candidate’s country’s school system.
  • Minimum two years of teaching experience in a formal school setting environment  (Preferable)
  • Experience in using technology for educational purposes 
  • Up-to-date knowledge of best learning and teaching practice and pedagogy. 
  • An up-to-date knowledge of play-based learning and the effective use of Continuous Provision
  • Passion for teaching and commitment to educating the whole child.
  • Knowledge and experience of the EYFS or similar child-led curriculum.
  • Knowledge and experience of teaching the International Primary Curriculum(preferred)
  • Have experience in planning for outdoor learning 
  • Have experience teaching in an open-plan unit (desirable)
